Historie
In 1863, the Secondary Education Act created a new type of education: the Higher Secondary School (HBS). By Royal Decree of 8 July 1868, the then municipality of Sappemeer was designated as the 'seat of a State Senior Secondary School with a three-year course'. As the first girl at an HBS, Aletta Jacobs was admitted in 1870 - at first only as an attendant. The HBS was later named after Aletta Jacobs. The son of the famous writer Multatuli was a teacher at this school for some time.
